I read recently here about nostalgia/ remembrance for the old hands that have passed, such as DDHawk and Qureka. It was stated that their wisdom was missed.I miss them too.
I don’t post much anymore, and have been silent for a few months, but I am one of the “Old Guard” here, as a stockholder since the Hague era. As such, I feel I am entitled to express a comment on occasion, so here goes:
First, Why in Hell are you guys grousing about the QDX platform being a product with only a few years of market? (until the pandemic runs its course). If this makes a bajillion dollars in the next 18 – 30 months, WHO CARES what comes after? I will happily take that money and live large until the grave. (and do charity work too)
As a retired business owner, I have come to understand over the years what a wizened old man once told me when I was in my 30’s: “Business is like bananas. It comes in bunches.” I have lived the majority of my adult life without a guaranteed income and have done far better overall than most of my mates who worked for others for the security of a steady paycheck. So if QDX “kills the fatted calf” for a year or so I will be absolutely delighted. Life is a risk. When an opportunity comes along, embrace it.
Second, I am a farm boy. In that culture it was often said that if you could have a bumper crop every three years you could succeed. It is natural for a “bin buster” harvest to be balanced out by a drought-or-flood induced crop failure year, and another year that was about average. Living under that truth has lead the farm people, or people with a farm-culture background, who populate the heartland where I live to become the conservatives that they are.
They have learned the hard way that if you get ahead and party it away, you will not survive the next bust.
So, that’s my message to you all. Be grateful for the blessings you receive as they fall, manage them wisely, and it will be enough. But guaranteed long term security is a fantasy. Life is just not like that.
Thanks for hearing me out.
Blessings to us all,
Swamp Angel
