From one of my HIV specialists, quite a few of the medications have serious side effects and poor patient compliance, sorry for the miss quote on the incidence of the disease, it is a bit of an extrapolation, but if you do not have symptoms, unless you participate in high risk behavior why you want to be tested?
For a laugh in the general work up for a patient with fever of unknown origin he was HIV positive when further questioning to drill down to determine the cause, he said I sleep with a prostitute but she is a friend and I don't pay her.
