BFDI..$0.68..Brekford Corp. Wins Speed-Monitoring Contract With Town of Crisfield
Date : 02/11/2013 @ 1:30PM
Brekford Corp. (OTCQB: BFDI) ("Brekford" or "the Company"), a leading provider of public safety technology and automated traffic enforcement solutions, vehicle upfitting, and rugged mobile technology, today announced an expansion of its customer base on the Eastern Shore of Maryland by entering into a contract for the provision of automated speed enforcement services with the Town of Crisfield.
Brekford's speed cameras, also known as photographic speed-monitoring systems, will be installed in school zones within the town limits and will operate Monday through Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Photographic speed-monitoring systems work in conjunction with photographic, video or electronic cameras to automatically measure the speed of vehicles and then product photographs, video or digital images of those vehicles that are violating speed limits or restrictions. Upon police review and confirmation of violations, citations are mailed to the owners of the vehicles.
"In accordance with legislation passed by the Maryland State General Assembly in the spring of 2009, we have determined that the installation and operation of automated speed-monitoring camera systems can effectively reduce speeding and reckless driving, thereby preventing accidents, injuries and fatalities among pedestrians and motorists, within school zones," noted Chief Tabor of the Crisfield Police Department. "Our contract with Brekford should allow us to reduce risks to both students and vehicle drivers in our town's school zones, while ensuring that our citizens are well-informed regarding the location of the cameras and that the violation citations sent to vehicle owners are fair and accurate."
"A growing number of states have passed, or are considering, legislation that authorizes the use of automated traffic enforcement systems to reduce the amount of speeding in school zones," said C. B. Brechin, Chief Executive Officer of Brekford Corp. "We have noted reductions of up to 80 percent in school zone speeding in some of the cities that have entered into multi-year contracts with Brekford over the past two years. While we have contracts with cities and towns on the 'mainland' of Maryland, including the City of Baltimore, we are pleased to expand our customer base on the State's 'Eastern Shore' with this contract from the Town of Crisfield. We are evaluating additional contract opportunities with municipalities in Maryland and other states within the eastern and midwestern regions of the U.S."
The terms of the Crisfield contract provide for the installation of up to four (4) camera systems for a period of two (2) years, with the Town having the option to renew the contract up to four (4) more times for a period of one (1) year each. In accordance with Maryland law, the Town of Crisfield Police Department will issue warning tickets to vehicles exceeding posted speed limits for an initial period of 30 days. After this initial 30-day period, the owners of vehicles traveling at least 12 miles over the speed limit within school zones will be issued a $40 citation. Failure to remit payment in a timely manner can result in additional penalties, including the inability of vehicle owners to renew their vehicle registrations if they have outstanding citations under the automated speed camera program.
