Right after he said there were quite a few deaths he also said the data is blinded. He doesn’t know if the deaths are placebo or drug. His comment can be interpreted a few ways - my interpretation is that he made that point for a reason and that while technically he doesn’t know if the deaths are placebo or drug, the unspoken point is he thinks there will be a significant delta between placebo and drug.
