Nobody that matters in the trading of this stock cares about the nonsense disinformation being attempted.
The 2019 sole source contract was cancelled due to the second protest about the way the bids were handled. The CAS_AAR_RFI update of June 23 goes to great pains to lay out how there will not be a repeat of this - detailed extracts in my analysis elsewhere.
The Tristar fleet has not been "left to corrode" in the UK countryside. They were only retired in late-2014, in tip top condition, and then subject to anti-deterioration servicing including full power engine runs up to at least when the purchase was finalized in 2019.
On the other hand, the OARS antique 1970s vintage B707 - bought from the former Romanian dictator Ceaucescu - had been stored since 2012 in rainy (109 days per year) humid (85%) Georgia until it was recently flown to Texas for conversion to a tanker - after which it will only have half the fuel off-load capability of a Tristar.
The 2020 USN MAC solicitation specifically makes numerous allowances that appear to be aimed at the $TMPS Tristars regarding airworthiness - quoting the UK CAA and "foreign government" documentation.
The RAF VC10 tankers - that served alongside the Tristars - were stored for twice as long - 1981 to 1991 - as the Tristars have been - before being converted from surplus civilian airliners to tankers.
RAF tanker aircraft spend their entire lives outside except when undergoing scheduled periodic maintenance.
The USAF has successfully recovered aircraft that have been stored for 40 years (U-2) when they have needed a replacement for the front-line fleet.
Whatever has to be spent on a Tristar pales into insignificance compared to $300M each for a new A330 MRTT when the effective cost per hour overhead is calculated.
Taking an already converted tanker fleet - with its complete conversion airworthiness history from a premier league western air force - is easier than getting that certification on a one-off conversion of an antique B707 bought 3rd hand (or more) from the executed dictator of a shady corrupt regime.
I know which I would rather fly on - and have !
