Red unplugged... Not that type unplugged, but I
Post# of 32626
Not that type unplugged, but I get your joke...
The clock is ticking but there's no time for regrets
Although I did see Archie Mcphee Instant Underpants .
I guess you just add water...
Does anyone see the irony with that?
Add liquid?
Now why would that appear before my eyes?
Didn't search it out
More on that in Part II if you are interested and why VERB is far better than FB and the rest
But first, Part I...
A nice unplugged song while you read
This week a recruiter reached out to me about a job
Head of Offensive Security
Thought it was a funny title.
Pictured a job on the DD and OS message board
Had to look at where the job was located
OK, dang not chattanooga, but West Coast
chattanooga a hot spot, eh...
Usually on the security side, with big brands, your are playing defense
I love a good defense
I've seen the best defense arguably in the world
I think I love offense more
I am thinking football
I played both sides
Would I like to deflect a pass or catch one?
Priceless when you are on defense and catch one...
Now you are a hero on offense for a moment
But it's hard to beat a good defense
Mighty hard
Looking forward to seeing football in the Fall
Anyway, the most common attack in cyber war is distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack
Even Amazon isn't immune to it, but many companies 'can' defend against it if they want and have money
Key is you have to have money
Hold that thought...
"Amazon Web Services recently had to defend against a DDoS attack with a peak traffic volume of 2.3 Tbps, the largest ever recorded"
https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/18/21295337/a...cout-arbor
Oh crap, that is a handful, a Guinness World Record, if Guinness was into these things
Who would do that?
What's the purpose you might wonder
"The objective of a DDoS attack is to prevent legitimate users from accessing your website."
'legitimate users', eh
You WILL see some patterns...
If you are in this business, it happens all the time to larger brands that have to fight against it.
I know this first hand and try to explain why your 'everything' is down to the CMO or the CEO
One you do, you have an open checkbook
Kind of like when you are on a bulletin board and post some DD about a company and 30 people post nonsense and lies to push it off the screen
"The objective of spam attack is to prevent legitimate investors from discussing 'their' company"
Usually companies outsource the Offensive Security to companies that do it for a living and provide those service.
This company is looking to bring it in-house
Wants someone to head up the Red team, I read I did
The punch line is, the name of the company looking to hire
Take a guess...
Yup, remember all the flap about their lack of security and also encryption, eh
"Privacy concerns have dogged Zoom since late March, when the company acknowledged its video meetings did not have end-to-end encryption despite marketing material indicating it did ."
Still working on it, I read
They have a bit of a problem though
First problem
They said they would only offer End-to-End Encryption to paid users
Free users wouldn't get it
Uh-Oh!
This isn't the day or age to do that
Encryption just for people that can afford it?
That got them some serious heat
some serious heat...
"With all of the dissidents and all the people using Zoom now, I think [offering end-to-end encryption only to paid users] is a mistake," said Bruce Schneier, a cybersecurity expert and a fellow at Harvard University's Berkman Center for Internet and Society. "I want them to have other features as profit centers, not safety and security."
Good news is, they came to their senses after many months and announced this week ALL users will be encrypted
Too much pressure, I guess over the last few months
https://blog.zoom.us/wordpress/2020/06/17/end...on-update/
Second problem
...they have is, when this will be ready?
"We plan to begin early beta of the E2EE feature in July 2020."
Early what?
Early beta?
What happened to the...
"Over the next 90 days, we are committed to dedicating the resources needed to better identify, address, and fix issues proactively."?
On April 1...
https://blog.zoom.us/wordpress/2020/04/01/a-m...our-users/
Let's see...that would be April, May and June
I am holding up 3 fingers and times'n that by 30
Yeah I know some are 30 and others are 31
...90 days-ish
Good thing they didn't say...
"30 days"
10K would be doing 'his' count down
You know, the 'it' that doesn't back of any of his conjectures with facts or links
conjecture = an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information
incomplete information, eh?
Here's the kicker
'They' are careful what they post
'They' purposely incite minions to do their bidding
You get a bunch of dummies to post libelous claims for you
libel = a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation
You think you are Scott free, eh?
It doesn't work that way though
Good job tricking others to do your dirty work
Isn't that how crime syndicates do it?
What I do know is you have to be sitting on millions of ill-gotten gains to feel as comfortable as the others do
ill-gotten gains = Benefits obtained in an evil manner or by dishonest means, as in They duped their senile uncle into leaving them a fortune and are now enjoying their ill-gotten gains. [Mid-1800s]
I am trying to think one the last time the SEC pulled 'them' into a case
Tik-Tok
Not the Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by ByteDance, a Beijing-based internet technology company founded in 2012 by Zhang Yiming.
Maybe I mean't the other clock thing
History does repeat itself
Oh, went of on a tangent
Where was I...
Don't tell me a '68 billion dollar' company is going to be late on something?
I thought that was exclusive to one company oh BTW...
That means, by the way, informed investors they were changing prioritizes
Zoom didn't do that...
With the the kings horses and all the kings men...
With the the queens horses and all the queens women...
Couldn't keep E2EE on schedule again?
Third problem
...is complexity
"Encrypting large video conferences is also a bigger challenge than encrypting text messages or smaller conversations, which services like WhatsApp and Signal already offer. With a one-to-one connection, the message or call data is secured on the sender's device, and only the receiver's device has the key to decrypt it once it arrives."
"Put simply, the more pairs of connection or "ends" there are to encrypt, the more data you need to secure — and even the free version of Zoom can accommodate up to 100 participants per meeting."
Remember Verb has gone back and redone their platform to add in some critical elements like APIs, self-service, SDK, etc.
Imagine Zoom going back and redoing their platform to add in encryption?
Not as simple as it sounds, but the companies reputation is counting on it
Shareholders too, at least the ones not in the class action
Google: zoom class action
There is a bunch of lawsuits
Man, a dump truck full...
This one is really sad and I hope they catch these bad guys
California church files class action lawsuit against Zoom after bible class 'Zoombombing'
"If you think about what Zoom is doing, they are collecting all the videos, all the voices, putting it together, displaying them nicely. If that stuff is being done in the center, they have to do work on it," said Schneier. "It does get harder exponentially as the size of the meeting grows."
"However, it's not an insurmountable task, and could be well worth it to restore the trust of Zoom's users after a series of privacy and security slip-ups."
"It's hard but it's not go-to-the-moon hard," Schneier said. "It's you-just-gotta-do-it hard."
Good thing they are not launching a rocket here
Zoom responds to privacy backlash by giving all its users end-to-end encryption
https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/18/tech/zoom-end-...index.html
Executive summary...
The company lied about what they had
The company lied about when they would fix it
The company now have a real challenge on their hands
That is just what I have time to post mind you
Seems like I am bagging on Zoom, but I am not
Better mouse trap, but they took shortcuts and didn't tell the world the shortcuts they took
Just showing you how every company has challenges and it's easy to highlight each of them and forget the good
Lot of good with Zoom
Here's the kicker...
You would think the mb 'experts' would be all over Zoom either way
Guess they only focus on OTC stocks but make some exceptions, eh?
To risky to f' with the big boards, eh?
Seems like 1/2 the handful that post on the boards don't even know which board they are on
If you read the headlines this week
Video conferencing market is exploding
It is going nutz
The foreseeable growth is off the charts
Why is that?
Companies learned over the last 3 months, employees can work from home...
Verb - right time, right place without the zoom baggage.
Here's the job BTW
One poster that provides links
Wonder why 'they' don't?
https://www.execunet.com/search-jobs/?details...;skipopp=1
Time now to unplug...
"I'm feeling like a dynamite
Ready to explode right up in the sky
I need you to listen, I need you to hear
And don't show any fear"
Rory said none of this would be possible without investors support
Always had mine
Always had 30+ here
How about yours?
What humbles me is there have been investors that have have hated many of my posts
Not the ones you would think of
I have an ends to a means and that will not rub everyone the right way...
But, there is a rhythm in my message that has been consistent and never wavered
Educate and provide information for investors to make their own decisions
For all Verb investors that support Rory and all the employee
Oh, BTW, some new ones have started in June...
"We are heroes tonight
We will fly above the sky"
There is a part II coming one day...
