A safe, effective vaccine is NOT a given. There are disturbing new studies that indicate that antibodies may not last more than a few months. The body has several lines of defense, like T-cells, in addition to antibodies -- but some of the 100 vaccines currently being developed may be worthless if they don't provide protection for at least a year.
They've been trying for many decades to find a vaccine for the coronavirus known as "the common cold." It is by no means certain that a COVID vaccine can be developed quickly -- and that it will be safe -- and that it won't be like chicken pox, causing another problem (shingles, in the case of chicken pox) in the long run.
There have been vaccines, like the first shingles vaccine, that seemed to be safe, and then when given to a lot of people, turned out not to be safe after all.
The fastest way to get the pandemic under control is a good treatment.
A good, safe vaccine is the ideal in the long run -- but SAFE is the key word.
