Rex, you are absolutely correct that my comments were wrong. I tried to delete that post but I couldn't find a delete button!
I thought that Patterson's report was sufficiently important that the controlling journal would pull out all the stops getting the peer reviews complete. I misinterpreted the absence of a very fast publish by the controlling journal as someone "pushing back".
I was probably wrong. As soon as I saw some of the comments by posters who had contacted Patterson, I suspected I had made a rather egregious error. But I couldn't find the "delete" button
