Yet as I read the board there are many that believe we are still living in the 1950s or so and IPIX should still be paid only 5-10% royalty fees, meager milestone fees, and for that we should kiss some BPs ass for allowing us to have the benefit of applying their name to Brilacidin.
Many will think me crazy for thinking this but look at the numbers that the BP will be making in profit for doing next to NOTHING. I applaud Leo for thinking like an owner offering a BP a chance to share in our gold mine, not crawling to them on bended knee asking that they throw some scraps our way.
While I would love to have some of those fat 20%+ royalty numbers these statements don't seem to square with what Leo and Co have done so far.
The only data point we have so far is the B-UP deal with AlfaSigma. That indication was estimated at $100M/year with provisions for sales milestones up through $300M. It had rock solid, indisputable trial results with camera footage, no safety issues, and is practically guaranteed to pass phase 3 and get approval.
What did we get in that deal? $450K upfront, $6M in yet to be achieved regulatory milestones, $18M in sales milestones for sales above $100M, and a 2-6% royalty depending upon formulation. If those aren't "scraps" I don't know what are.
I'm hoping we get the real government funding everyone is talking about but aside from that, where is the leverage to drive a harder bargain going to come from? Our financial position is not any stronger than it was a year ago.
Go IPIX!
