It is interesting it took BP to find the connection, all the articles I have read just used the subset of cytokines and didn't measure the inflammatory cytokines, aka the chemokines that mitigate movement. Looking from outside the research area, it would seem very logical when dealing with new pathogen, completely unknown how it was attacking, they would use the larger set. But the previous research probably focused on the smaller subgroup, so they went with their understanding. Even GvHD, which we got the term cytokine storm is just now figuring out the role of ccl5 with the successful p2 trial of maraviroc last year. Sometimes science is a messy process, but in the end I have faith the full story will come out.
