A lot depends on what type of patent and what is it for. There's 3 different sources I pasted below. Some of the VERB patents have been updated patents what seem to go quicker. It's good they are updating them as always good to keep building and protecting. Also means they are valuable to go through the trouble.

The two they applied for around posting to social media over a year ago and the recent VERB Live will take 12-18 months to become visible. That is to protect the company that submitted the application from copycats who take and idea, change it a bit with less than 1000 lines and then claim they duplicated everything.

The one posting interactive videos from social media

"The patent application covers the use of in-video, clickable calls-to-action (“CTAs”) displayed on mobile devices, particularly, devices utilizing Apple’s IOS operating system, and Google’s Android operating system. The nFusz technology is unique in that it allows mobile users to interact with clickable CTAs while watching videos that appear in their Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn feeds, natively, without leaving the application."

Should show up soon. Doesn't mean it's approved, but you will be able to read it. The way the PR describes it, this would be a BIG deal if approved.

Patent pending starts from the time you submit a patent application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). It ends when they grant or deny you a patent. Most applications are pending for one to three years. However, it can take three to five years or longer for applications involving software or electronics.

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), it takes about 22 months to get patent approval after going through the steps to file a patent. If you're eligible for a prioritized examination for plant and utility patents, known as Track One, you might get approval in six to 12 months

The present (2012) average wait time until the USPTO provides us with the results of the Patent Examiner’s first substantive review and examination (average pendency to first office action) of the patent application is about 21 months. The average time it takes to obtain a patent from the patent office at this time is about 32 months or a little under 3 years. [See the current wait time statistics at the USPTO website [here] (best viewed with Internet Explorer)].
