IDK how you look at finances, but if I personally make millions, I would much rather set up a family member (or several) to receive that "pocket change" than give it to some charity for a tax deduction. My feelings about charities aside, I prefer to go into the community....any community, and get involved with the people directly, help those who are in need the most and be where I can see my money at work. I don't care about a tax write off.
Sending that much money to a charity and blindly accepting that it's all going to get used the way I want is a little naive. Even non-profit charities make money off of people's donations. I'm not here to enrich the professional money skimmers who steal money that's intended for less fortunate people.
There is a learning curve involved with spending big money wisely. When worries shift from trying to make ends meet, to trying to figure out how to wisely spend large sums of money, people will make mistakes. Giving a huge amount of money like that to a charity would IMO be a HUGE colossal painful mistake. IMO
