Maybe the President* Should Not Encourage This

We here in the Commonwealth (God save it!) were reminded on Monday that our shining city on the hill is not immune from the pandemic of stupid currently breaking out all over America. From NBC News:
The protesters, including supporters of President Donald Trump, held signs reading “Tyranny is not Leadership,” “Governor Baker End Lockdown Hoax,” and “End Shutdown” and waved American flags and flags bearing Trump’s name. "For what? For a lousy virus? A flu?" asked conservative talk radio host Jeffrey Kuhner.
Few of those gathered were wearing masks. Most were crowded together and not staying six feet apart as recommended for social distancing efforts. Similar protests were held over the weekend in Maine and Vermont.
It is now clear that this particular spasm of empowered ignorance is a product of the wingnut collective. It also is now clear that the great majority of the American people are not willing to risk death at the inspiration of some radio male-enhancement pitchman.
It also is now clear, if it wasn’t clear from the spectacle of Red Dawn cosplay in the Michigan legislature last week, that having the president* encourage sedition against his own government is not a plan for effective leadership. Sooner or later, it comes to this. From the Sacramento Bee:
FBI agents found four pipe bombs at the Loveland home of Bradley Bunn on Friday, a statement from the office says. They also allegedly found two 1-pound containers of gunpowder in his vehicle. Bunn has been active in protests against coronavirus lockdown orders at the Colorado Capitol in Denver, where he has been spotted carrying firearms, KCNC reported.
It was an interesting morning in Loveland, as KCNC reports.
It was early Friday morning when federal agents and local police made their presence known at the corner of Chestnut Drive and Gabriel Drive in Loveland. Judy Daulton, a neighbor, heard what happened next. “It was a big loud boom at 7 a.m. A real loud boom and I went out and all of a sudden there were three to four police cars out here,” she said. Inside the house was Bradley Bunn. FBI special agents teamed up with local law enforcement officers to execute two search warrants at the home. During that search, agents discovered four pipe bombs, along with gunpowder.
The bombs and gunpowder were taken to a range where they were detonated. “He was pretty reclusive,” neighbor Jeff Myers told CBS4. “He doesn’t really come out in the neighborhood very much. I think he is a former military man.” Bunn’s oldest daughter told CBS4 investigator Rick Sallinger that her father served in Iraq in 2003 and had explained to her that he was in a convoy that hit an improvised explosive device.
She asked that her name not be used. She added he hadn’t been the same since then. The daughter said Bunn was unhappy about the lack of testing and treatment he received from the military and he was upset about the circumstances in which he left the army. Information about Bunn’s treatment and military status could not be immediately confirmed.
It’s all fun and games until...wait, no, it never was fun and games. The country is devolving in its politics into two camps: the innocent, and the accessories after the fact.
Cosplay, (kosupure), a portmanteau of the words costume play, is a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character.[1]
