For every buck anyone makes there was someone has lost that.
Say someone buys 100 shares of an IPO at $10/share, then sells them to someone at $15/share. That person holds for a bit then sells for $20/share. The person who bought for $20/share holds for awhile then sells for $25/share. The person who bought at $25/share holds for 5 years then sells at $50/share. Etc, etc, etc.
Q: Who lost money in that scenario?
A: No one
The myth that for every winner there's a loser in the stock market is just that - a myth. Not picking on you, it's something most people believe to be true. Just showing that it's actually not true.
