While I was being taught in college, Frontal lobotomies were the standard of care, people were put in jail for refusing to allow "safe" blood transfusions for their children, The AMA was sure that smoking and viruses did not cause cancer. Drs could and will still lose their licenses or worse be jailed for treating cancer as a failure of the immune system, but we also knew the earth wasn't flat. That doesn't mean that viruses and the cancers they cause aren't contagious.
