I know for a fact though that anything 5 or 6 decimal places has a MM on at least one side. It stands to reason that the more we see this, the more MMs are trading.
A word about MMs, aka institutional trades. These people are traders, just like retail. They have different rules than retail, but in addition to filling client's orders, they speculate and trade all the same.
Another thing to remember is, some retail brokers charge by the share, not by number of trades, so placing multiple small odd lot trades doesn't cost any more than placing one larger trade.
One more thing to consider is, people across the board like to play games. How many people here have ever placed a trade in any stock for 911 shares? Be honest! Nothing dishonest or immoral about it, it's just one of the strategies that plays out.
