After reading the original paper I wonder if the virus uses CD147 and the beta-2 adrenergic receptor (binds β-Arrestin) for invasion like some other infectious agents.
CCL5 (RANTES) recruits β-Arrestin which leads to greater CCR5 expression. β-Arrestin also initiates endocytosis (invasive cell binding).
The increased CCR5 expression would explain the cytokine storm and the endocytosis would explain the ability of COVID-19 to successfully bind to T-cells.
