There are hundreds/thousands of anecdotal stories of MCT oil and coconut oil helping Alzheimer's patients. Pure MCT oil is completed digested/assimilated within 8 hours. When people take MCT oil in the form of coconut oil, it takes longer to break down. (Theorized that some of long-chair triglycerides break down into medium-chain.) So the people who are trying it on Alz patients either make sure they get a dose every 8 hours, or combine MCT and coconut oil to try to keep a sustained level.
WARNING: don't just go and add a spoonful of MCT oil to your diet. It has a strong laxative effect. You have to work up to it slowly -- start with no more than 1/4 teaspoon once a day, and gradually increase to twice a day, and then bigger doses. Otherwise you will have a very unpleasant experience with it. :-0
