Not that I'm here to defend the FDA, but I certainly don't envy them. We are a bit partial because we typically follow cydy religiously(guilty as charged) however note the number of urls posted containing news stories listing a host of other drugs. They have to sift through all that chaffe and figure out fact from fiction with endless biotechs in their ear. If they get it wrong and approve a drug that doesn't work with unknown side effects, they'll be mocked in the court of public opinion and lose trust for other drug approvals AND we lose more covid patients to an ineffective treatment. If they don't approve a drug that we later find out does work, they didn't move fast enough because we have the benefit of hindsight and we'll have lost more covid patients. It's almost a lose lose situation because in the public eye/perfect world they should have had a drug ready before the pandemic and now it's here and they can't move fast enough.
They are under the microscope like never before. I'm glad we do have some sort of organization to help separate the contenders from the pretenders.
I'm sure no one wants to hear anything positive about the FDA but I'm looking at it from their side and how many big pharmas are probably in their ear, plus the president, and the media pushing them to just let everything through even if it might be snake oil.
My hope is the data cydy provides gives some clarity that leronlimab is the real deal. I don't doubt there are people in the FDA who know someone or somebody affected by covid and want a drug to help as much as we do and sense an urgency.
I'm ok if this post gets removed. Just thought I would throw out a different perspective even if it's a bit contrarian.
