As of this moment, globally there are 82,085 deaths among 1,431,944 cases, the death rate is alarmingly at 5.7%. COVID-19 is highly contagious, it can be transmitted from people showing no symptom and it kills healthy young adults. Virus researchers still don't fully understand the nature this virus. If governments of the world don't intervene to mitigate spreading of this virus, it will spread rapidly in a chain reaction and there will be 7.8 billion people infected worldwide in a very short time with potentially 444 million deaths.
Seasonal flu is least contagious and has a killing rate of only 0.1%, if world governments did intervene on seasonal flu as they are doing to COVID-19 there would be only very few cases of death occurred among patients with severe health problem. So never be deceived by the media that seasonal flu causes more death than COVID-19, for it shows how naive you are.
If this COVID-19 occurred in the 14th century and with no government intervention, the number death could be comparable to the Black Death.
The Black Death, also known as the Pestilence, the Great Bubonic Plague, the Great Plague or the Plague, or less commonly the Great Mortality or the Black Plague, was the most devastating pandemic recorded in human history, resulting in the deaths of up to 75-125 million people globally.

In total, the plague may have reduced the world population from an estimated 475 million to 350–375 million in the 14th century. It took 200 years for Europe's population to recover to its previous level, and some regions (such as Florence) did not recover until the 19th century.
