Families "may want to do a little research" would be fine, if their loved one wasn't on a ventilator and dying. I envision the "research" going mostly like this:
Family: Dr, my Dad is dying and you say this experimental drug isn't approved yet, there is a long line of people wanting to try it, and there actually isn't much of it in the world . I'm thinking I'd like several days to research this company. What would YOU do if it was your family member?
Doctor: You don't have "several days", I'm afraid, as Dad isn't doing well. Me? Based on the fact that there IS evidence that this drug has been incredibly effective and safe, and based on the fact that we really have NOTHING else, I would say get your Dad on it asap.
Family: Research complete. Save my Dad, please!
