While the current primary trial for Hydroxychloroquine and Zithromax is dominating the news other drugs are likely to have advantages even if the current trial proves successful There are sure to be individuals and situations where the secondary drugs are likely to be superior. For example HCQ and Zpacks may produce increased complications in patients with heart disease due to arrhythmias and sudden death. Decreased renal function also increases the complications of hydroxychloroquine. Patients with visual problems may be better candidates for one of the secondary drugs. It is possible Brilacidin with its long duration of action and guaranteed compliance could be given when patients are first diagnosed to reduce later complications.
