at about 10 mins, new technology for 400Gb and beyond capable is needed - its one thing to increase the data rate using spectral efficiency, but spectral efficiency is difficult to scale especially in longer Reach applications, Metro and Long Haul, you really need to move to use higher Baud rates, if you move 2x up in spectral efficiency your Reach goes down by a factor of 4, if you do that with Baud rate your Reach only goes down by about 10%
at about 18 mins Ciena guy Kent talks about all the considerations needed when choosing what Baud rate is "ideal" for getting to 800Gbs, there are multiple factors being considered, but the answer they conclude is 95 GBaud!
