Bottom line from the rather confusing PRs.
- the drug works
- the drug is safe (we knew that)
- the first 2 very ill incubated patients responded well enough to be taken off their ventilators
- the next 2, treatment started later, are also doing well
- the next 3 that started this week are also improving but probably need another week
- Doctors at the treating hospital want to do the laborious double blinded, placebo, 75 patient trial. They are believers and want to do it in the midst of all they are currently doing!
- Emergency compassionate trials that require FDA filings per each patient have been relaxed. No need to file. FDA probably has defined guidelines for selecting acceptable patients which doctors can follow to use. FANTASTIC!!!
GOT TO BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A HUGE PLUS FOR THE FAMILIES WITH MEMBERS IN VENTILATORS OR HEADED TOWARDS ONE. IF THIS CONTINUES TO SHOW SUCCESS, AND IS ADMINISTERED EARLIER, THEN THE NEED FOR VENTILATORS COUKD BE DRASTICALLY REDUCED (IMO).
