The death rate in Wuhan was high, but in other areas, less than 1%. The biggest issue I believe is overwhelmed hospitals. Too many sick patients needing ventilators, you are in trouble. Health care workers all get coronavirus, you are in serious trouble. Also, the age of the population infected plays a huge role, most deaths have at least one other underlying condition, which chances of that increases as we get older.
