I have to disagree with you here...
The best promotions are the "give-a ways" where you introduce your product into the marketplace immediately. If you wait for responses to your advertising, time is lost and those who might otherwise not reach out to you are gaining a familiarity with the product while promoting it to others.
In this case, as I understand it (and if I do not understand it, I am surely to be sternly advised ...) the kits are going to the hospitals, clinics, labs, and doctors who will be utilizing the kits.

What better a way is there than to introduce a superior product into the marketplace while gaining name recognition.
Once the speediness of results is realized, it will be a no brainer to demand the best and quickest devise to remedy a situation.
Sales to the general public may come when the production ramps up and the doctors and clinics recommend the product. Word of mouth (and print) provide the best sales tool of all.
It all starts with a freebee...
