My families number was 547W to call me you told the operator my number. Also, we lived on a lake on a channel to another lake. It was long distance to call the neighbor across the channel. butwe could call farmers 30 miles away in another direction. We were on the edge of the dividing line between phone companies. That was in 1954 when I was 7. I think it was the next year or so all that changed and we got a 7 digit number. I am not sure if they had area codes yet. And yes, we had party line"
