In watching President Trump today I am extremely confident that the US response to CV-19 is headed in the right direction. Trump fan or not (big fan here) you must admit that he and Pence and this administration have done an admirable job in bringing together both the public and private sectors to identify and advance solutions to defeat CV-19 (and in all honesty many other issues throughout the last few years). IMO, it’s great to have a business person with a “get things done” attitude leading our country. It’s clear, at least to me, that the Administrations “can do” approach may not be welcomed across the steeped in culture, bureaucratic, two party system we have come to know as American politics.
As a 8-year investor in DECN, I have been more than frustrated with DECNs inability to advance its diabetic testing and strip technology to market to increase sales and evolve the business. Frankly, I was never a fan of chasing patent litigation as I always thought that it redirected resources from the core business and the fight seemed endless. My frustration peaked after the latest Circuit Court ruling in favor of J&J.
Certainly DECN and KB have done a great job advancing a diabetic strip and device portfolio through the Product Development gates. I remind myself that in a number of discussions with KB years ago that he did fulfill what he said he was going to do along these lines. What fell short (and for reasons still unknown, but not imagined) was generating sales. Hopefully that can change.
With respect to CV-19 I am amazed at how quickly the company jumped on board and adapted their Gen Ultimate TBG technology to create a CV-19 testing device. Bravo and excited to see technology proven in application. Good to be nimble!
After listening to Trump today I was most impressed with 1) a clear direction for the country in dealing with this virus 2) the collaboration of our government and key business partners and 3) and IMO, most important, a commitment to ensure regulations, processes and systems are put in place to handle like situations fir future generations. I mean, serious, this guy is not kicking the can. He cares and wants future generations to have a much clearer path in dealing with similar issues.
And, in reading between the lines, the future is where I see the DECN solution coming into play. Sure it will have significant benefit for CV-19, but the real benefit will be in that it seems to be a tool for multiple indication testing. A tool that is low cost, user friendly, self administered and with near real time results. I imagine the audience was more than impressed and could see the short, mid and long term benefits of such a solution.
Reviewing the presentation I expect dollars will be carved out for DECN. I would hope resources would be available to help fast track the testing, validation and manufacturing as well. I was involved in securing TARP funds during the Financial crisis a decade ago. Petitions for funds are well vetted and the allocation of dollars is not taken lightly.
Good luck in this endeavor DECN. Execution and Go To Market strategies need full attention. Make it happen!
