NEWS: a tone of halts!
BIO-key International Inc. shares were up fourfold, to $2.07 , in heavy trading after the company said it has secured a $30 million contract for its biometric authentication platform through its partner Technology Transfer Institute of Africa and its newly created subsidiary based in Africa .
Volume for the stock was 15 million shares at 12:10 p.m. EDT , compared to its 65-day average volume of 61,000 shares, while hitting its 52-week high of $2.28 . The company has 14.4 million shares outstanding, with a public float of 6.9 million shares.
The biometric-software company said its platform will help the enrollment of users and the positive identification of individuals for a telecommunications company in Nigeria .
BIO-key said the deal represents a major step in its growth in Africa , one of the largest and fastest growing economic regions of the world.
