I live in the SF Bay area and the fear is real. Up to last week, I didn't really feel it or see it around me. Yesterday, the MUNI was empty during rush hour. The work commute traffic is noticeably lighter than normal. There was one death reported. Five cases of community spread infections.
From the Singapore article I linked in a previous post (or maybe from all the other articles I've read), the critical thing to contain/control the spread of infection is to be able to track it. Because some people's symptoms are so mild, they don't even know they may have had it and thus they don't get tested.
What is needed is a cheap, fast, point of care test....gee, I wonder who can offer such a product?!
We need to get this under control NOW. Italy could avoid their desperate attempt to quarantine the entire country if they had some means of tracking it.
