The bill would enable billions of dollars in spending, from the development of vaccines and therapeutics ensuring the availability of medical supplies, ABC News reports.
The measure would also provide billions to states and localities struggling to fund the costs of containing the virus.
Trump planned to sign the bill during a visit with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at its Atlanta headquarters before abruptly cancelling the trip, according to NPR.
The White House stated on Friday that the president “does not want to interfere” with the CDC’s work. Later, Trump said the trip had been cancelled after learning that a CDC employee exhibited symptoms of coronavirus, and had been tested.
