I will wager you that in the last 10 years my area has felt more hurricanes than puerto rico. when you are prepared with backup generators you get through them. We storm harden certain school sites here to serve as shelters for evacuees from across the state. You simply need to be prepared. I dont think the hurricane threat is a deal breaker at all.
