I agree with your assessment. I look at a company like GoPro, which IPO'd at like $24/share with the creator/owner of the company, Nick Woodman, owning enough voting shares that he CANNOT be voted out. The stock went to $95 (4 years ago) and people were doing great...then, suddenly, the company started failing miserably at EVERYTHING they touched, outside of their one action camera, and the stock price closed today around $3.67 and Woodman is STILL the man in charge. Pathetic. He didn't know when to get out of his own way. I hope that will not be the case here.
