Great article I agree with your premise, until this year, a new immunotherapy for cancer with almost no side effects will change everything in cancer treatment!

This treatment is an immunotherapy in a phase 2 human clinical trial. It just started in September and the results on the first 5 patients have been stunning. After just 8 weeks of treatment with this monoclonal antibody (Leronlimab) the metastatic tumors have shrunk more than 50% and all circulating tumor cells (these are the cell that travel through the blood to spread cancer to other parts of the body) have been reduced to undetectable levels. Patient #2 had stage 4 HER2+ breast cancer that had spread to her liver, lungs and brain. She was given only months to live and was unable to move around well with the tumors in her brain. After 5 weeks of treatment she flew with her family to Los Angeles and went on a cruise. The 18 tumors in her brain have all shrunk over 50% and 15 of them are no longer visible on the most recent MRI. The cancer in her lung has also has also been reduced. The company just issued a press release today describing these results:

The company just announced their approval from the FDA to be able to treat 22 different types of cancer in a basket trial. Lung cancer is one of the 22 different cancers and the monoclonal antibody has already been shown to be an effective treatment in patient #2's lung cancer. This treatment is very safe with no serious adverse side effects in 860 patients it has been tested on in the companys' HIV trials over the last 6 years.
It can be used to make conventional treatments of chemo therapy and radiation more effective.
