Flu virus' have been adapting to the human immune system for thousands of years and hence have many ways of cell entry and when blocked can mutate very rapidly to get around any new defense system. In addition its encapsulation make it not necessarily dependent upon a single cell receptor. The new corona virus while also mutating and adapting rapidly is in a new sandbox so to speak in the human body with its unique immune system. It will not be able to adapt as rapidly in regards to cell entry bc that mutation would require a lot more genetic changes then flu which is already very adapted to human beings. In addition there is. I encapsulation and hence make it harder for the virus to avoid detection while undergoing beneficial mutations. Simply put being a foreigner in a strange land makes one stick out more easily and make adaptation to a stressful environment much more difficult.
