Unfortunately happens very often. Actually I have an scan for "unexplained volume spikes" that does a very reasonable job on detecting stocks that will explode to the upside (I use a number of standard deviations from the norm). Only explanation is that "somebody knows something I don't know. The probability of these created simultaneously by a number of unsuspecting investors is almost null.
You are correct, however his has been the case for few weeks now. The stock broke resistance three days ago and has increased the ascend rate since.
Maybe your explanation of the Corona news is the answer, I don't know, and hope you are right, however my experience is that, more often than not, news/results leak and the volumes increases.
In any case, we are living interesting times in terms of economical results and, finally, vindication of long-held faith in the underlying science.
