Ricky Gervais is absolutely right about Hollywood

Quote:
On Jan. 5 at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, English comedian Ricky Gervais gave a monologue that will live in infamy. Gervais dared to call out the Hollywood elites for their constant hypocrisy and idiotic lecturing, right to their faces.

Beloved actors such as Tom Hanks were downright appalled that Gervais made a joke about disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. When the gasps and boos came, Gervais countered:

“You did it! I didn’t. You did it!”

It’s only true that Hollywood has itself to blame. For decades, Weinstein sexually abused women. Despite being the worst kept secret among Hollywood stars, it took those outside of Hollywood to hold Weinstein accountable. Often Hollywood elites will rant about how sexist America is, yet for decades sang a sexual assaulter’s praises.

During the Awards, Gervais also called Hollywood elites for the so-called “higher” morals.

“Apple roared into the TV game with ‘The Morning Show,’ a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing — made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. You say you’re woke, but the companies you work for, I mean, unbelievable: Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service, you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you?”

This is also true, as people such as former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick rant about inequality constantly. Yet they will gladly take the money from corporations who treat its sweatshop workers as if it was 1900. So why are those like Colin Kaepernick lecturing us about inequality when he is turning a blind eye himself?

Gervais then swiped Hollywood on their most constant flaw: idiotic lecturing.

“So, if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech, right? You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God, and [bleep] off.”

I cannot tell you the numbers of times I’ve found it annoying that celebrities will lecture me on Trump, religion, abortion, the economy, diversity and environmentalism.

I cannot explain why the Hollywood elites cannot find it problematic that I’m at fault for climate change when they will use more greenhouse gas in a single day then I will ever use in my life. I cannot comprehend why elites like director Michael Moore will lecture me on capitalism when he is enriching himself using the system he decries.

The irony about Gervais’s speech is that elites did exactly what Gervais warned them not to do: lecture us about politics.

Later that night, actor Michelle Williams lectured about why abortion helped her move along in life. It was also absolutely ironic that Williams stopped her education at 15-years-old, literally fulfilling the criticism Gervais had warned. That said, why does Williams feel like her decision is the right one, and that it applies to every woman? Has she ever met someone who didn’t support abortion?

People who are outraged about Gervais need a reality check, because Hollywood itself carried out the wrong practices Gervais spoke about.
