So BP advertise very much their products.
Until now Truvada was it ...
So lets review the problems with it..
Truvada...
It is 2 HAART medicine in one ...
Emitricitabine and Tenofovir Discoproxil Fumarate...
And a problem with it...
--On its own cant suppress HIV , so some patients developed HIV taking that as a PrEP.
--and some patient can develop resistant HIV taking that for PrEP.
--do not cover resistant HIV.
Common side effects.
--Headache,
--Abdominal pain
--weigh loss
Serious side effects :
--Worsening of Hepatitis B infection.
--Kidney problems , including kidney failure,
--Lactic acidosis , rarely but sometimes can lead to death.
--Severe liver problem,
--Bone problem,
--cant take during pregnancy or breast feeding , may harm baby,
--May interact with many other drugs for many different reasons ..including some drugs given for Hepatitis B and C.
Because of all this , and IMO business decision , now Gilead came up with Descovy for PrEP,
It is like Truvada but with lower dose of Tenofovir , so company feel that side effects should be little lower..
If Dr Sacha will prove that once a month SC injection is working for PrEP with Leronlimab , we be a big winners....
IMO as always.
