In my experience, there are a mountain of freedom restricting laws in the US that people don't even think twice about. Like camping on a public beach anywhere on the US coast overnight and having a campfire. Handcuffs.
What would happen if I rode 4 people on my motorbike down Main Street USA? Again, handcuffs and more.
Some towns and cities don't allow people to have a garden on their own property....yep, handcuffs again if anyone does not comply.
Car insurance? It's not required everywhere like it is in the US.
Taxes? Go to any one of the 2500 booths in a single market in Thailand and ask the proprietors how much tax they pay. The answer will be $0.
I could go on, but opinions will vary widely because of personal experiences. Comparing a 51yo US native to 35 year immigrant family....opinions will certainly differ.
