Moat is a Many-Splendored Thing ... For newbie
Post# of 146
For newbies, on the brink of hitting the 'buy' button, go to the website, http://kraiglabs.com, and read all the pr's from the last two years. Yes, it will take time. Time well spent. Duh, it's your money!
The objective, besides your own personal education, is to impart to you the complexity, the depth of research, the sheer magnitude of what has been accomplished to arrive at this point. For instance, over the past 5 years we have negotiated a series of agreements in (and with) Vietnam involving numerous parties and politicos. The patience, tenacity, wrangling, and attention to detail required would be enough to deter most companies from even trying. We did, and in so doing, succeeded in changing the rules, regulations and laws of the entire country to accomodate our technology.
That's one. Next, our patented (& patent pending) technology is applicable across the wide swath of industry. Take your pick - impact resistant material to protect those in high risk activity, sports & adventure clothing, fashion, construction materials, medical, and who knows what else. Now ponder how many companies are involved with all these products. Once one company gets it, they all will want some. Nobody wants to be left behind.
Thirdly - The revenge of the nerds and geeks, God love 'em. Science got us here and science will keep us here, now and in the future. Yes, we can do multiple tasks simultaneously. We have COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION ongoing as we read, type, and speak. This means, by any definition, there exists a contract (yes, w/ revenue). Unless, of course, we went to all this trouble to setup COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION to hand out samples at the local bakery.
Coming in at number #4, the other stuff, the substance of the last pr and others before. Possibly the biggest. The truth is I couldn't tell a non-native protein expression from a ham sandwich but I don't have to. I do understand Dr. Trevor Kane, CEO Thompson, & COO Rice believe it is the next level tech and are really very excited about the possibilities. They are conservative in all pronouncements and if they say this is terrific tech, that's good enough for me. It took much time and consideration to assemble this team. I trust them all and believe wholeheartedly in what they have done and in what they want to do. Underestimating CEO Thompson and his team, especially at this point in time, is a foolhardy risk I am unwilling to take.
Fifth - Our technology is drop-in ready to the silk infrastructure in other countries. When others see what we have done, they will definitely come a-callin'. Probably already have - India, S. Korea ... ?
Sixth - This industry we initiated, spider silk and its' derivatives, will be an economic boon for everybody involved. We have revitalized an industry that was all but forgotten. Vietnam was a footnote in worldwide production. With us, tonnage will come and recognition for being a technological innovator. Our presence is putting people to work to live a good and decent life giving hope for their children. Good stuff not easily forgotten. That generates loyalty.
Seventh - Sustainability. It mimics and uses nature itself. No added preservatives, hidden sugars, pesticides, herbicides, or MSG. Who needs more problems? Our technology not only puts money in your pockets, it's clean, efficient, and cutting edge.
And finally, Secrecy. Yes, I used the 'S' word. We didn't get this far without it, in spades. Aggravating for those investors who demand to know each and every detail but absolutely necessary. Like our CEO said, "we only get one shot at this thing". So think how the competition feels! Remember there was one competitor who had screen shots of our website posted in their offices. And now, with non-native protein expression, ratchet that up a notch.
These factors constitute a Moat. All you knights in shining armor out there are familiar with the concept, so please, tell the others. We have, through who we are and what we have done, shielded ourselves. Not forever, not on your life, this is ongoing. Remember, it's the science. Science doesn't stop simply b/c you have achieved some really cool stuff. Perhaps that is the most important lesson after all.
CEO Thompson will make the move to a higher, better, national exchange when he is damn good and ready. And not a second before. When that move takes place, with or without a RS, this moat will seem like an endless sea of top-notch, superior, innovative, technological achievement unsurpassed in the respective industries. Try that on for size, goo makers!
