For over 40 years, NCPDP has led a transformation in the pharmacy services sector by creating and promoting standards for electronic healthcare transactions. Our collaborative, consensus-building process has produced operational efficiencies that save $30 billion annually in healthcare costs, while increasing the safety and quality of patient care.
NCPDP and the pharmacy industry have developed solutions to problems that continue to challenge the rest of healthcare. These include real-time claims adjudication, eligibility and benefit verification, real-time ordering by the physician, and sharing of medication history. The lessons we have learned can be valuable to other healthcare sectors.
As told to me by Dr Dalton earlier this year: We own our payment system to bill Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance on a system I helped to build.
Doc also mentioned in his LinkedIn updates months ago about the importance of NCPDP of which he is an honored founding member. Do not underestimate how big this is. I believe I have overlooked this aspect of our business plan for far too long. It will be a huge part of this conglomerate and it will certainly differentiate us from the competition. Doc says we are years ahead of the competition and I have no reason to doubt him at all!
