That is a natural process when a small stock that usually had a relatively low volume (eg. 6-10 million, for months) suddenly has 500-600% volume. There may be a lot of limit orders at or above the previous close, but those eager to buy may place market orders, and the current high speed trading algorithms will create such phenomena when there are many competing orders. When volume declines, then price declines, but the new range has been set. At least, this is my simple-minded understanding how it can happen.
