According to The Department of Justice (DOJ) , a hacker from New Jersey could spend the next 12 years in prison after he confessed to using keyloggers to steal data from two companies for more than a year. The hacker broke into each location and installed physical hardware keyloggers to siphon information. This enabled him to install malware that does the same thing as the hardware keyloggers, or what’s called a digital keylogger in order to steal logins and other sensitive information. Then, using the stolen logins, the hacker got into the company’s network and went after data from various employees, including the ones working on a hot new technology. He also created and planted malware to transfer all that data back to himself and granted himself remote access, so he could get into the company’s network. Almost a year later, the company's network team spotted the network intrusion, launched an investigation and the hacker, Ankur Agarwal, 45 of Montville, New Jersey was caught. The DOJ did not name the victimized companies.
