Ah, I see what your problem is now (well, one of them at least).
If there is no physical proof of the existence of something that has been put out for public consumption, you assume it does not exist.
In other words, if you don't know about something, then it doesn't exist.
I guess you can go that route but I think I'll let the scientists do their thing behind closed doors and when they are complete and seafarer finds treasure everyone will know for sure that it does exist and does work.
Even convicted felons paid to bash Seafarer online will know that it both exists and works.
