I taught my kids that religious groups are all about
recruitment and control of the social part of the mind
and then creating a (society) group of some kind.
With or without a bible, most have nothing to do
with 'spiritual' experience. They leave behind
special experience for rules, pressures, and purpose.

Communists suffer religion, religious groups, more than
anything else. They target religion necessarily for control.
It has always been that way.
The clan witch doctor sees clearly the problems, immediate.
Control human relations and human energy.
