Can Trump Save California From Itself?
The news cycle is a continual flow of outraged handwaving about just about everything and eventually it comes around to housing. Now President Trump has supposedly dispatched a team to deep blue (maybe we need to switch the colors so that California can be deep red) California to “clean up” the state’s homeless problem. Cue the outrage. The problem is that California has only itself to blame for it’s housing problems.
California is run by classic lefty, Democrats who see the solution to housing as being about more money. And more money. And more money. Meanwhile local governments make building a new housing unit in places like San Francisco nearly impossible. I wrote a post titled appropriately, San Francisco Doesn’t Have A Housing Crisis, It Has A Governance Crisis. In that post I highlighted this video which catalogs the misgovernance in the city that systematically kills new housing supply.
