Why is Oprah getting sued?
Is it over for the "OWN" network? Well, with the network set to lose 142.9 million dollars it might just be time for the network to end. Read below about the latest hit to the OWN network with a lawsuit filed.
The Christian Post reported on Feb. 2 that Carolyn Hommel filed the suite in Friday via Los Angeles Superior Court. Hommel was initially hired by the network back in 2010 and worked as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions. Hommel claims everything appeared to be going great for her, based on performance reviews and other feedback, and that she was even in line to be promoted to vice president. However, after she took medical leave for her pregnancy, things seemed to deteriorate.
Apparently Hommel was replaced while on medical leave with a "temporary employee" who was slowly given all of Hommel's duties. Hommel says she was even excluded from important meetings she would normally participate in. In addition, she alleges that her boss, Michael Garner, gave her an inaccurate performance review, which hurt her chances of gaining the position of vice president.
Carolyn Hommel gave birth to a daughter this past February, but just a month later she was terminated, according to her lawsuit filing. She is now suing for an unspecified amount in damages due to the alleged discrimination.
Oprah Winfrey rose to fame as a daytime talk show host, and then after concluding her final show, transitioned to the new OWN Network where she continues to be a part of interviews and other programming. Roanoke viewers can see OWN on channel 59 via Cox Cable's "TV Essential Digital" package.
