I recall an article from a couple months ago that discussed a combination of a two or three drugs that slowed the spread of the HIV, used Sangamo's ZFN to cut the CCR5 (essentially mimicking delta 32) and also cleared the reservoirs. Gene editing has a ways to go and permanently modifying DNA/genes seems like it would take a long time for approval. I am pretty sure that Dr. Sacha has worked with SGMO's ZFN (think he mentioned it on CC or interview), so maybe this is OHSU and his work? Maybe now, leronlimab can replace the ZFN or gene editing portion as it is much safer and not permanent.
If they can eliminate the HIV virus in the reservoirs as we discussed previously, this may be a cure? Looking forward to seeing what his research and this article shows!
