it's like the allstate commercial. they phrase it like they are helping you be a safer driver. what their telling you is their going to watch you and see if your doing any thing wrong i.e. hard braking, speeding, etc. and if you are, their going to jack up your rates. i agree the device needs to be put in the vehicle by the manufacturer, and i think when the first one does it, it'll be off to the races for every body else. i personally like the app. being installed by the individual. as a parent, i want to know what little jimmy is doing, but i damn sure don't want the ins. co. finding out. we found out the avg. mpg app worked in our household. when one of the kids borrowed my car, i would show them the dash indicated 25.7 avg. mpg. i would tell them it had better be that or better when they got back. i wonder how much fun they had trying to cheat it. i fiqure they reset it and drove the last few miles home at 15 mph. that's what i would have done. jmo
