Pokey123, this is a special dividend of greater than 25%, so there are different rules. I know it does not make sense of the the record date way ahead of the pay date, which is not normal in regular dividends, but in greater than 25% it is normal. This extra time allows the company to solidify the list of investors that day to be able to appropriate the add'l shares properly. You need some time when you are basically giving between 1/3 to 1/2 the company back to investors.
